Matariki

We celebrated Matariki with our younger class, Te Pouahi 16. This was a great time to celebrate and reflect on our lives and the lives of those around us.We had a shared kai and celebrated togetherness.

Welcome to Term 3!! Nau mai ki te wahanga Tuatoru

Kia ora ano te whanau

Well, we have had a great start to the new term! We welcomed back Isabella who had been on holiday in Italy with her whanau. Isabella shared some of the great things that she did while she was on holiday and also told us what it was like going to an Italian school! Ka tau ke!

Our tamariki have been busy with making a powerpoint with a song and presenting it during a school assembly. Their willingness to take on ICT responsibilities is wonderful, ka wani ke!

Maori Language Week was celebrated with our Tamariki teaching other students how do do the poi, the rakau and string games. we celebrated our mahi by having a shared kai( paraoa parai!!)

Totara Syndicate had a hangi, this was popular for the whole school, so much in fact the kai was all gone!

Whaea Manna is doing well back in Japan. She keeps in touch regularly and will have some photos to put on the site soon...

Also we will be sharing some myths that the tamariki from Te Pouahi 15 have written and some photos of their fabulous art work.

until then, hei konei, hei kona!

Welcome to Term 2!

Kia ora ano te Whanau

Well, Term Two is here and the tamariki are working hard and fast! We have a lot to look forward to this term.

The first week was full of Anzac work, from looking at a service medal to some students attending the Dawn Parade in Nelson. This unit was a great opportunity for the tamariki to appreciate the darker side of history and to understand what Freedom"actually is.

"The Forest", is our Sustainability focus and we have talked about our main idea throughout the school, "The Future starts now!"

I am looking forward to more people reading our site and leaving comments.

Cable Bay Trip- Tuesday 27th March 2007.

Kia ora

As a follow up to our Virtual Field trip through LEARNZ, we went out to Cable Bay and did some exploring of our own.
Check out some photos.
Here are some stories from our class: Written on Wednesday 28th March, 2007.
I went to Cable Bay. First we looked at the rock pools then we had morning tea with sausages and marshmallows. Yum yum! Most of us went for a dip in the water. I went in Tea and Evy's Mum's car. By Analijia,Year 3
Yesterday me and my class went to Cable Bay and we found a kina and I had a swim because it was so hot. By Tiana ,Year 3
Yesterday we went to Cable Bay with my Dad and lots of other people. When we got there we went looking for rocky shore animals like starfish. I didn't find any for a while but then I found a baby starfish. We cooked marshmallows and sausages. After that I found a little shrimp. Then we went home. Lucy, Year 3.
On Tuesday me and my class went to Cable Bay with Room 14. It was half an hour drive to get there. I was suprised that it was Cable Bay because I just went there. We had lunch there, when I saw everybody jumping in the sea I thought why don't I jump in there too! We had a good splash around there. We turned into Mermen!
After that I was trying to find crabs and I accidently fell over and dropped a rock on my finger. I cried then I wrapped my towel around me. I saw a fire burning and there were marshmallows and sausages to be cooked, by us! I got to have two marshmallows and one sausage. Arlo, Year 3.
On Tuesday my class Room 15 went to Cable Bay. In my mum's car was me, Ben, and Georgina. It took half an hour to get there. When we got there, everyone was down on the rocks, but we were on the wrong side of the beach. So we got back in the car and drove to the other side. When we got to the right side we started to look for things on and in the rock pools. After we found a lot of things we sat and ate lunch. Then I went for a swim. It was cold, when I got out I made up a song with Paige. Then I roasted a marshmallow and went home. Miro Year 4
Room 14 and 15 went to Cable Bay. We found lots of interesting and outstanding objects. There were sea anemones, the colour of pink and light green, there were shells of different kinds and there were rocks as sharp as blades. We collected cool things in our buckets. Then we went for a swim in our clothes! It was freezing cold. All of the boys kept throwing sloppy, icky mud! Some of the girls and I relaxed at the end with magazines to read. We had toasted marshmallows on a stick. Then sadly we had to go back with memories of the breath taking adventure we had. Maraea, Year 5
Inanahi, i haere matou ki Cable Bay. I haere ahau i te taha o Matua Tony. I takaro matou he kemu, karu kitea ( I Spy). I te wa i haere matou ki te one, i takaro matou i runga i nga toka. I kitea e au nga koura iti. Tino tere ratou. A muri i tena, i kai matou nga totiti me nga kai reka (marshmallows). I kaukau matou hoki. He ra tino pai tenei. T.S Year 6
Rooms 14 and 15 went to Cable Bay with some of our parents. When we got there we had a look in the rock pools. The first thing I found was a cat's eye- PUPU, and then some sea lettuce. In the end I had cat's eyes, starfish, sea anemones, and even Neptune's necklace. At lunch time we toasted marshmallows and sausages on the fire. After lunch we were allowed to go for a swim in our clothes.
In was so much fun in the water. On the way back we shared legends and stories. We arrived back at school and I sorted out my animal shells. Cable Bay was lots of fun. It was such a great experience. I loved the toasted marshmallows, yummy for my tummy! Hinekiri, Year 6.
I went in Matua Tony's car to Cable Bay. I went with Lucy, OOnagh, Shaye, Tiana,Arlo and Ethan.
There were like 100 or more crabs. Arlo even pointed out that there was an octopus! Isabella Year 3.
Yesterday my class went to Cable Bay. We had a fire and I found a starfish. We had a look in the rock pools. It was fun. It was really hot at Cable Bay. I didn't go for a swim when everyone else did, but it looked like they were having loads of fun! Hana Year 3.
Room 15 went to Cable Bay for the day. We had sausages, morning tea, swimming and heaps of other things. The rock pools were cool. We went there so we could have some fun and so that we knew exactly what to find in the rock pools. Geogina Year 6.
