A matou mahi

Kiaora ano te Whanau

We have been working really hard in our akomanga! Our powerpoint presentations were a hit, we really enjoyed putting our thoughts and what we think of the Treaty of Waitangi in there. We will be showing our presentations during our Whanau day.
The most important thing we feel is to be honest in our thoughts. Whaea Trina gave us the information and challenged us to come to our own conclusions, which we did.

Thank you Whaea Trina for guiding us!
We will be putting these on our blog once we figure out how to do it!
Na the Blogging Team and all of the tamariki o Te Pouahi Tekau ma Rima.

Don't forget to leave us a comment, we enjoy reading your feedback!

Mahi Tuhi- Writing time!

WALT- We are learning to use our knowledge of desrciptive words to describe an event that has happened.

Wild, Windy, Wet, Wicked, hail
Stormy, Scary, Silly, severe
Rainy, really bad
Crashing, cold, Thunder, Lightning

It was Wednesday night when the thunder came. This happened exactly the same.
Stormy and scary with lightning and thunder.
Everyone shivers when the wind starts to blunder.
Wild and Windy and wet wicked hail
You can't even go out to get the day's mail.

Na Miro.

Rain
I'm sitting here in my house, and the rain is pouring down, down, down.
I'm stuck here because the water's flooding my valley.
It's a severe, awful, crazy storm.
It;s raining, raining, cats and dogs.
Now comes the wind, whack! My house! Oh no!
Now lightning, thunder, so very very frightening
Crazy weather, storm, storm, STORM!
now it clears up
No clouds, no thunder, no lightning, no frightening
Yeah!

Na Rosa

Storm

When you are in a storm it can be terrifying, horrifying.
Trees can fall down, you could get blown around.
The wind will follow you into your house, under your sheets.
Knock at your windows and scream to come in.
Take care, stay out of sight.
Close your eyes with all of your might.

Na Kayzian

Storm

Makes me dizzy.
Turning, swirling, in my head.
It's the spookiest thing I have ever seen.
Pouring down harder than ever.
Scary sounds, crying, freaky.
BOOM, CrASH, SmaSh, BANG!
The Thunder roars across the sky.
Making me dizzy.
I see people screaming, crying.
Rain falling, house smashing.
Poles falling, Families crying.
Terror, terror everywhere.

Na Tanisha

SMART

We are

Sequential
Measurable
Achieveable
Realistic
Time framed
This is how we operate every day...
sequential so we know what to do
measurable so we set goals for ourselves
achievable so we can be in charge of our learning
realistic so we give it a go, if we don't get it right we try again
time framed so we challenge ourselves to do well, and to finish our work in a set time
That is what we are!

A very special Kia ora to Dave and Sheryll (Whaea Sheryll and Matua Dave)who joined in our fun and helped organise our equipment and start our races. Thanks too to Whaea Christine for popping in to see how we were going. And to all our Kaiwhakaako who wished us good luck :)
Special thanks also to our wonderful Parents who came to tautoko their tamariki, and we had a nice, healthy shared kai at the end.

A matou mahi i roto i te akomanga!

At the moment we are working through our Presentations that we hope to upload to our Blog. Our rich task is as follows:
Present a visual project that shows your understanding of how history has made us who we are.

(Kidspeak- Choose one thing from the past and show how it has evolved in the present. What might this look like in the future?)
We have brainstormed and talked about what this may look like. Whaea spoke to us and worked with us through Te Tiriti o Waitangi, and we are using what we have learned, what we think and where we are now. (Using our knowledge of the Treaty, and our knowledge of our whanau and who we are)

Reading Strategies

Predicting
Predicting is a helpful reading strategy as it helps us think about what to expect when we read.
What we know already (our prior knowledge) helps us to predict.

When we predict we can use the
• Title
• Front and back covers
• Blurb
• Pictures, or diagrams
• Table of contents
We can think about the
• Topic
• Author
• Text form (for example narrative, newspaper report, recount)
Good readers keep making predictions and adjusting them all through their reading.
(Thanks Sheena Cameron!)
