Marae Noho Week 6

Te Pouahi 15, 16 and 17 all stayed the night at Whakatū Marae on Thursday the 4th and Friday the 5th of June.
We had a pōwhiri and it was cold. Whāea Sandi (Whāea Erina's Mum) was our Kaikaranga and Matua Dave was our Kaikorero.
We went through the Powhiri process, and then we heard about the "tikanga", in the Whare Tipuna and the Kāuta.
Matua Anthony- David's Dad, was awesome too. Unfortunately Whāea Janis was unable to attend with us, but we were very grateful for what she and Matua had done.
Our beds were made, the whare was warm, and our Parents went for their Runanga Matua hui. They weren't there for long, as Cheyanne and her Mum had arrived, and we needed to Mihi whakatau them.
After that, we were allowed to play board games and the parents went and finished their hui. Kai was served, the smells were oh so delicious!
Lots of kai, some people got in trouble for piling their plates, instead of just taking enough and then going back for seconds. We thought this was fair!(going for seconds rather than piling our plates up, what a waste of kai to do that!)
Pudding...mmmmm...chocolate cake, te reka ō te kai!!!
We were able to let our kai settle, Ethan, Pravin and Hinekiri were in the kāuta doing the dishes, and others were helping clear the wharekai. Our parents were awesome in preparing our kai, thanks heaps Mātua mā!!
Matua Charlie finished his kai and then we went to do Kapahaka for an hour- as it had been a long day and Whāea wanted us to settle before bed.
It was about 930pm when the Seniors went to bed....unfortunately there were still some tamariki talking in their beds and they eventually went to moe!

Parakuihi was at 7.30am- so we were up early and packing up the whare so we had minimal stuff to do.
Matua Charlie had been in the kāuta early and he and some others were preparing kai for us.
Kapahaka again and then a final clean through. To finish our noho, we sang to our mātua to give them a small "snippet" into what we have been doing!
Thanks to Whāea Carly and Whāea Jo, to all of our Mātua who helped in the kāuta, the Whare Tipuna, the pōwhiri, with kai and cleaning, guitar, organising our noho and to Whāea Trina- thank you for making it happen!

Museum Visit- Week 6

kiaora anō whānau

We went to the Museum today. It was fun because we got to see lots of different fossils...did you know we even got to hold a "taniwhasaurus" bone.....Whāea Trina DID tell us that Taniwha were real........

The fossils were really exciting- we enjoyed looking at all of the different fossils and working in groups to look at how things changed over the years!
