Today we were lucky enough to go and spend the day with our tuakana kura- Te Pitau Whakarei at Nelson Intermediate.
We sang "Te Whetu Marama" with Te Pitau Whakarei, then sang Tai aroha to them, they sang a song back to us.
We had kai, Dominoes pizza and it was reka rAWA atu!

We have been so busy with various things that we haven't had time to contribute to our blog.
Today though we got to skype our Epals at Cedar Ridge Elementary in Eden Prairie, Minnesota.
It was really exciting to see our buddies! Sometimes the video would freeze, and it was hard to hear the audio, but after that it was all good!

Parihaka Presentations

We were asked to think of a memory that we enjoyed, and then we were given the medium of paint and pastel.

Clean up, Whakatika te awa!

Earlier this term, 3 of our class mates, Abel, David and Kawhia visited the Mayor. Last term we invited him to our school. The boys wrote a letter to him asking if we could be responsible for cleaning up the stream by our school. We did our topic study for the term on Stream life and preservation of life in the stream and were lucky enough to go Electric fishing with Martin Rutledge and his team.
We will be meeting with reps from Nelmac and will have our photo and a story for the paper soon.
Check out the photos of the boys when they went to visit the Mayor! Kawhia bought nets for us in all colours thanks to the Mayor!

Parihaka

Kiaora whanau
Yesterday the 5th of November we celebrated, shared,and presented on our understanding of Parihaka. This has been one of the areas we have studied. We have listened, learnt and watched snippets from YouTube, and archived material from the National Library.
Here are some photos of the work we did, and also our passive resistance where we lined up like fence posts and fell one by one when the soldiers walked past us, then we got back up again.
We also made the raukura with our bodies- the raukura representing, Glory to God, Peace on Earth, Good will to all mankind.
